Biography of Apostle David Poonyane
Prophetic Destiny
The journey of Apostle David Poonyane is one marked by divine providence and the fulfillment of prophecy. In 1969, Apostle Michael Ntseto, a man whom God used for miracles, signs, and wonders in his ministry, delivered a profound prophecy for Bloemfontein’s destiny. He declared, “In the future, God will raise a man of God, young of age. The church will be in the outskirts where cows graze on the road that takes you out of Bloemfontein, called Shannon Road. Miracles, signs, and wonders will happen there.”
Humble Beginnings
The story of Apostle David’s journey is a humbling one of how God raised a young man from abject poverty, to lead a ministry that would attract millions to witness the undeniable, raw and authentic power of God.
After completing high school, he dreamed of pursuing higher education but was unable to due to financial constraints. Instead, he took up work as a toilet cleaner at a local restaurant. Carrying a small Bible in his pocket, Apostle David would often preach to those around him, witnessing some laugh, some cry, and many surrender their lives to Christ. Yes, it was during life’s ordeals that he faced, that had created a void within Apostle David and a strong urge to speak to God and ask Him why all this suffering. God visits His people through loneliness when we are caught between a rock and a hard place, we perceive the presence of God most clearly. In 2006, Apostle David married Evangelist Ebenezer Poonyane, a faithful partner in both life and ministry. Together, they are blessed with four children, embodying a family rooted in faith and dedication to God’s work.
A Divine Calling
On the crossover of 2001, Apostle David experienced a life-changing encounter with the Holy Spirit, marking the beginning of his ministry. When he had just turned twenty-two, on the 31st December 2001, around midnight when everyone outside was shouting happy new year. Apostle David was in a one room shack, with a candle lit, he was praying to God and a messenger from Heaven was sent directly to him regarding the call of God upon his life. He then asked God for guidance, for him to find a person who could help him to do what the Messenger of God had instructed. And God began to point him to his future success.
Preparation and Spiritual Growth
This encounter opened doors for him and he found himself at the Synagogue Church of All Nations, in Lagos Nigeria, where he had an opportunity to submit and learn from a great Prophet of God, Senior Prophet TB Joshua (blessed memory), in a country that was thousands of miles from his home. This was the beginning of a great relationship of eighteen years, up to the end of the Prophet’s life - this is a relationship that will continue to be cherished one day, together, at the feet of Christ Jesus. Apostle David remained and learnt at the Prophet’s feet for two years and he left there ripe like a fruit that was ready to be eaten.
Prophet TB Joshua was a man of the Spirit. His relationship with Apostle David was purely spiritual than physical. Three months before the Prophet’s departure to glory, Apostle David had a dream where the Prophet said to him, “Come to Nigeria.” Upon his arrival, the Prophet told him to enjoy himself and have the best time of his life during his visit with him at the Synagogue Church of All Nations. Even in his last moments with the Apostle, the Prophet gave him an instruction in righteousness and assured him by saying, “I will be with you, I will join you”. Moreover, he said to Apostle David, “I am tired, I want natural sleep.” And this was a parable concerning his glorious departure. He continued to support the Apostle until his last days on earth. What a divine relationship. Prophet TB Joshua remained Apostle David’s spiritual father and mentor, pointing him to his future success, until he passed on to glory. The beauty of life does not depend on how happy you are- but on how happy others can be because of you. 2 Corinthians 5:8 comforts us by saying, to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Although Prophet TB Joshua is absent from the body, he is surely present with the Lord. His legacy lives on through the ministry of Apostle David.
